Our client monitors water flow at sewage treatment works across the UK. They mount laser flow monitors to static H frames across a sewage channel to monitor the waste water depth and speed providing measurable data for their clients.
Static H frame with Laserflow mounted
As part of their work, they were asked to put together a solution to monitor the flow and depth of a 4-meter-wide channel of sewage. This was the widest channel of wastewater they’d encountered.
Our client contacted Hoist UK to provide a solution that could swing into a locked position above the open body of water. Up until now, they had been using a static H frame to mount laser monitors above the water. This solution was designed to make maintenance and repair of the monitor lasers much easier and safer than on a static H frame. Given the structure didn’t need to lift and move heavy loads, our engineers had the opportunity to build a rigid structure to safely carry the laser monitors.
The customer wanted to keep the overall column height to a minimum as the distance between the lasers and the water flow was very important.
Based on the specifications provided by our customer; Hoist UK’s engineers provided a complete solution. This included design, manufacture and testing of the bespoke low level overbraced jib crane for this unique application using one of our standardised products.
The crane's design allows it to be loaded with the laserflow monitors, then swung into position. This will make deploying the lasers a significantly easier and safer operation. The complete design, manufacturing and testing process was completed in our factory in the UK.

Business Development Manager
Hoist UK
"This project allowed us to highlight one of the many benefits of being a British manufacturer of jib cranes and lifting equipment. We were able to provide a tailored solution specific to the customer's application and a complete design and technical package to suit.
It was brilliant to see the final result on site from the initial enquiry/client brief.”
The installation went very well and the jib arm is working perfectly. It has turned out better than expected and now we have the first one out of the way, this is definitely a solution we will consider again.
