Our customer urgently required a lifting solution to work with their existing jib crane and electric chain hoist configuration that could replace their existing manual handling process for a 30kg tool component.
As well as urgency, another challenging aspect of this project was the customers need for a solution that would enable operators to safely lift the tooling approximately 400mm into the machine and then hand position it.
Hoist UK have designed and manufactured a bespoke magnetic counterbalance lifting beam to work in conjunction with the customer’s existing jib crane and hoist configuration. The lifting beam will replace an existing manual handling process where the customer used their existing pillar jib crane and electric chain hoist to move the 30kg tool component and position it just outside of the machine’s bay doors, however the existing jib crane and chain hoist configuration is not capable of manoeuvring the tooling inside the machine. This meant that the operators then had to manually lift the tooling and position it approximately 400mm inside the machine.
Our technical sales team worked closely with the customer to fully understand their requirements and proposed a counterbalance lifting beam
as a potential solution for this particular application. Our design engineers planned and designed a magnetic counterbalance lifting beam in accordance with BS EN 13155, that would be able to safely lift the tooling and was ideally suited to the customers application, and once the designs were approved, the lifting beam was manufactured in-house by our skilled fabricators. We then validated the design with a sample load of the same weight, size and material properties by undertaking a functionality test within our workshop. This test would ensure the magnetic counterbalance lifting beam had been designed and manufactured to technically correct standards, was safe to operate and fit for purpose.
Once supplied to the customer an accredited LEEA sales engineer provided on-site system familiarity training for the basic operation of the lifting beam.
“For this specific application the customer could not use an off the shelf product and required something bespoke. It was not feasible for the customer to maintain manual handling of the 30kg tooling and there was an urgency for this solution to be designed, manufactured and supplied as soon as possible.”
